JustStream lets you stream local videos and mirror your Mac to all your devices

Apple’s AirPlay technology is great, but it has limitations. For example, it cannot stream media to Google’s Chromecast dongle or a Smart TV model without AirPlay support. With JustStream, a new app by Eltima Software, you can not only mirror your Mac’s display to your Apple TV, Chromecast or Smart TV but also stream local videos over your local network.

The all-in-one software sits in the menu bar, ready to kick into action as soon as you choose the device you’ll be mirroring to by clicking the AirPlay icon at the bottom of the window.

JustStream supports a wide range of Smart TV models from different manufacturers, including Samsung, LG, Roku, Sony and Panasonic. And unlike AirPlay which only works with iOS-friendly media formats, JustStream supports a vast range of media file types, including the popular AVI, FLV, MKV, 3GP, MP4, MKV, MOV, AVI, WMV, MP3, WAV and other formats.

Should you happen to encounter a video file type that’s unsupported by your TV set, JustStream will transcode it into an appropriate file type — while streaming — without any interruptions. Subtitles are supported as well, external or embedded, and you can even change subtitle font, size and color when streaming to Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra.

With custom playlists, you can create a very long streaming sessions comprised of thousands of songs or hundreds of videos, with support for both external and embedded audio. The app remembers your playback position so you can continue right where you left off.

Best of all, JustStream lets you mirror your Mac’s screen and audio not only to Apple TV, but also to the Chromecast devices, Smart TVs and a bunch of other DLNA-certified devices. While mirroring, you can choose which Mac screen or external monitor will be mirrored on your TV set, adjust your mirroring output quality (auto, 1080p or 720p) and more.

As a cherry on top of an already sweet cake, the app allows you to capture cursor movement in the mirrored output and optionally show a highlighted circle at the spot where a mouse click was made, a cool trick when making presentations.

You can grab JustStream from the Eltima website or via Mac App Store for free.

The initial download limits you to 40 minutes of uninterrupted streaming and mirroring, with an optional pro subscription at $10 per year available to unlock unlimited streaming and mirroring.
