iDB Holiday Gift Guide: Great Apple Watch gifts and accessories

Apple Watch gift guide 2019

The Apple Watch is one of the hottest tech gifts this season, and whether the folks on your list already have one or are getting one, they’re going to need accessories. Our gift guide offers a number of Apple Watch-themed gift ideas, including a clever travel case that keeps your Watch protected and powered, a gorgeous leather band for more formal occasions, a wireless charging dock, and much more.

Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS) 44mm

Apple Watch Series 5

If the person you’re shopping for doesn’t already have an Apple Watch, consider getting them the Series 5 (GPS) 44mm with the aluminum case. We like this model because it has the larger display and battery, yet it’s the second cheapest in the lineup, behind the 40mm (which is more for smaller wrists).

Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) 38mm

If you’re looking for something a little more affordable, we like the Apple Watch Series 3. Yes it’s two models old, but it hits a nice sweet spot between price and performance. It has the faster processor and water resistance of the newer models, and of course still includes the optical heart rate sensor. And if you’d prefer it, you can grab the slightly larger version (42mm) for another $20 or so.

Twelve South Timeporter travel case

Twelve South Timeporter

Traveling with your Apple Watch can become a tedious affair—you have the charging cable, the power adapter and possibly an extra band or two. That’s where the Twelve South Timeporter comes in. This stylish travel case opens to reveal a built-in spool for easy cable storage, and space for a power adapter and at least one spare strap. Plus, the lid actually has a spot for your Watch’s wireless charging disc, so the whole thing doubles as a charging stand. It’s the perfect travel companion!

Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Dock

There are literally thousands of Apple Watch docks and chargers on the market, but I’m not sure there are many better than this one from Belkin. Its built-in Apple Watch charger supports Nightstand mode and the wireless iPhone charger supports fast 7.5W charging. Plus it has a USB port in the back, so you can charge up to 3 devices simultaneously.

Wearilizer Stainless Steel Band Adapter

Here’s a kind of outside-the-box gift idea: the Wearilizer. It’s a set of stainless steel clips that attach to your Apple Watch like normal AW lugs and enable you to connect virtually any normal watch band. I know, two tiny pieces of metal don’t sound like a great gift, but if you’d like you could pair them with a new watch band or two. The adapter can be installed without any tools, and it comes in multiple colors to match your Apple Watch case.

Nomad Traditional Leather Strap

A leather band can help your Apple Watch make the transition from the gym to the boardroom, and one of my favorites right now is the Traditional Leather Strap from Nomad. It’s made with Horween leather from one of the USA’s oldest tanneries and features custom stainless steel lugs and buckle. Translation: this thing just oozes class.

Catalyst Waterproof Case

Most newer models of the Apple Watch are water resistant, meaning you can wear them in the shower or while swimming, but you probably shouldn’t keep them submerged in deep waters for long periods of time. That’s where this Catalyst case comes in. It’s waterproof up to 330 feet and drop resistant up to 6.6 feet, and it comes with a comfortable strap. I also like how it gives the Apple Watch a beefier, sportier look, almost like a digital version of Casio’s popular G-Shock line.

The Watch Band Portfolio

For the [Apple Watch] aficionado in your life, might I suggest The Watch Band Portfolio from von Holzhausen. Honestly, there are a lot of watch strap cases out there, but I like this one for its sharp, minimal look and ample storage. Plus, it’s made from 100% animal-free fabric and lined with microfiber made from 100% recycled water bottles, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Belkin Valet Portable Charger

The Belkin Valet portable battery pack is an interesting little gadget. It has a built-in magnetic charger for your Apple Watch and a USB port for charging other devices. And although it may look small (it’s about the size of a candy bar), it really packs a punch. Belkin says it’s capable of re-charging a near-dead iPhone to 100% up to 3 times. It’s a great combination of power, size and versatility.

Apple AirPods Wireless Earbuds

Yeah, it’s a bit cliche these days to throw AirPods into a gift guide. They connect instantly, sound great and are one of the best selling tech products of the last few years. Still with Apple’s recent focus on making the Apple Watch more independent, having a good pair of wireless headphones like this means you can take the tunes with you, but leave your iPhone at home.
