BlueFinder jailbreak tweak helps you find a misplaced iPhone via Bluetooth

BlueFinder

Have you ever misplaced your iPhone somewhere in your home, but had immediate access to a paired Bluetooth device? If so, then you might be excited to learn about a new jailbreak tweak called BlueFinder by iOS developer AnthoPak.

From what we can gather, BlueFinder lets you use a paired Bluetooth accessory to trigger an audible ringing sound on your misplaced handset. This has significant advantages for clumsy folk who consistently drop their iPhone between the sofa cushions or leave their handset somewhere in the house and forget where they put it.

At first glance, BlueFinder seems immediately comparable to Apple’s native Find My feature for AirPods, but it’s actually just the opposite. While the on-device Find My app can be used to emit a loud noise from a misplaced AirPod, BlueFinder works by having the user power their Bluetooth device off and on a pre-determined number of times in a row to trigger a loud noise from their misplaced iPhone.

Citing the tweak’s depiction in Cydia, BlueFinder should work with all and any Bluetooth devices that have been previously paired with your iPhone. Moreover, you can configure the number of power cycles necessary to trigger a lost device beacon, and you can even customize the experience to include device vibration and LED flash to make your misplaced handset easier to locate.

After you’ve installed BlueFinder, you can visit the tweak’s preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure it to your specific needs:

BlueFinder settings

Here, you can:

  • Enable or disable BlueFinder on demand
  • Choose how many Bluetooth device power cycles will be necessary to trigger lost device sound
    • 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5
  • Enable BlueFinder for all Bluetooth devices
    • If disabled, you can restrict BlueFinder to up to three different devices by exact pairing name
  • Enable lost device sound when triggered
  • Enable device vibration when triggered
  • Enable LED flashing when triggered
  • Display a stop alert on your iPhone so that you can turn the lost device sound off with a tap
  • Enable low-to-high lost device volume when triggered (Crecendo volume)

It’s worth noting that a lost iPhone or iPad can already be located with the Find My app on another device or web browser as long as it’s connected to the internet. BlueFinder, however, works whether that device is connected to the internet or not, so long as the handset is within Bluetooth range (~30 feet at most).

If you’re interested in trying BlueFinder out for yourself, then you can purchase it for $1.50 from the Packix repository in your package manager of choice. The tweak supports all jailbroken versions of iOS from 11 to 13, but those on iOS 13 will need to install libpackageinfo by SparkDev from revulate’s beta repository until the original package is updated with iOS 13 support. Links and instructions to add that repository are available in the tweak’s depiction.
