iPad Pro with 3D sensing cameras and ‘iPhone SE 2’ expected to arrive in early 2020

While a refresh of the iPad Pro was briefly expected to arrive before the end of 2019, the running theory is now firmly planted in the first half of 2020.

And renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is reiterating that belief today. That’s based on a new note seen by MacRumors, which states that Apple is currently planning on launching not only the newest iPad Pro models in the first half of 2020, but also the oft-rumored “iPhone SE 2”.

The analyst note states that the new iPad Pro models will include 3D sensing through the rear camera setup, which will include a time-of-flight (ToF) system that measures the time it takes for light to bounce off objects to ultimately form a 3D map of the area. It’s expected that the early 2020 iPad Pro will feature a pair of cameras on the back.

This analyst note lines up with a recent rumor that slated Apple to include a new 3D sensor in the iPad Pro, starting in early 2020, that would essentially lay the groundwork for the company’s push into more robust augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) efforts. If that timeline sticks, then we could see Apple launch a new AR/VR headset as early as 2021, and then AR glasses in 2023.

And yes, as the title suggests, Kuo once again brings up the so-called “iPhone SE 2”. He believes this device will launch before the end of the first half of 2020. And he has said in the past that the device will share a lot of similarities to the iPhone 8, including the 4.7-inch display and Touch ID on board. The handset will reportedly feature an A13 Bionic processor, though, to make it more worthwhile.

When it arrives, pricing could start at just $399.
