Earlier today Apple finally made all the rumors come true: the 16-inch MacBook Pro is officially official.
The major draws to the newest MacBook Pro are design-related, including the new Magic Keyboard, a new design under the hood to better handle heat, a physical Escape key, and more. We’ll have a comparison to the 15-inch MacBook Pro, which has been discontinued, up shortly. But before that, we’ve got a quick breakdown of the technical specifications of Apple’s newest member of its laptop family.

Price
The 16-inch MacBook Pro comes in starting at two price points: $2,399 and $2,799.

Display
The retina measures in at 16 inches (diagonal), and it is backlit by LEDs. It features the standard IPS technology and features a resolution of 3072-by-1920. It supports millions of colors and has a pixel-per-inch count of 226.
It supports up to 500 nits of brightness, wide color gamut (P3), True Tone technology, and supports the following refresh rates: 47.95Hz, 48.00Hz, 50.00Hz, 59.94Hz, and 60.00Hz.
Here are the supported scaled resolutions:
- 1920-by-1200
- 1680-by-1050
- 1280-by-800
- 1024-by-640
Processor
There are two processor options to choose from:
- 2.6GHz 6‑core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz, with 12MB shared L3 cache. This option is configurable to 2.4GHz 8‑core Intel Core i9, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz, with 16MB shared L3 cache.
- 2.3GHz 8‑core Intel Core i9, Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz, with 16MB shared L3 cache. You can configure to 2.4GHz 8‑core Intel Core i9, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz, with 16MB shared L3 cache.
Storage
The stock options are either 512GB or 1TB, depending on which price point you want to start at.
The least expensive model starts with 512GB of built-in storage, but it can be configured to boast 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, or 8TB. Each option comes with an SSD.
The more expensive model starts with 1TB of storage and can be configured to feature 2TB, 4TB, or 8TB. These are all SSD options as well.
Memory
Each model starts with 16GB of 2666MHz DDR4 onboard memory. However, you can configure your model to feature 32GB or 64GB of memory, too.
Graphics
- AMD Radeon Pro 5300M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory and automatic graphics switching;Â Intel UHD Graphics 630; configurable to AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory or AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory.

Charging and expansion
There are four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) on this machine, each of which is capable of handling: Charging, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt (up to 40Gb/s), and USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s).
There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Keyboard and trackpad
There is the redesigned Magic Keyboard with the scissor switch, rather than the contentious butterfly design. The keyboard has 65 keys (U.S.) or 66 keys (ISO) including four arrow keys that are set up in an inverted-T arrangement.
The new MacBook Pro boasts a physical Escape key, the Touch Bar, a Touch ID sensor for biometric security, an ambient light sensor, and it has a Force Touch trackpad.
Wireless
The 16-inch MacBook Pro supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi networking. It is IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n compatible. It also boasts Bluetooth 5.0 on board.
Camera
The front-facing FaceTime camera is 720p.
Video support
The built-in display simultaneously supports full native resolution at millions of colors and:
- Up to two displays with 6016‑by‑3384 resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors
- Up to four displays with 4096‑by‑2304 resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors
Thunderbolt 3 digital video output
- Native DisplayPort output over USB‑C
- VGA, HDMI, DVI, and Thunderbolt 2 output supported using adapters, which are sold separately.
Audio
There is a high-fidelity six speaker system installed in the new MacBook Pro, which features force-cancelling woofers. The speakers support wide stereo sound, and also supports Dolby Atmos playback. The headphone jack is mentioned again, and the device also features studio‑quality three-mic array with high signal-to-noise ratio and directional beamforming.
Battery and power
According to the page, Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook Pro features up to 11 hours of wireless web browsing, and can get up to 11 hours of battery life if you’re using the Apple TV app for video playback. It has up to 30 days of standby time.
The 100-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery will be charged by a 96W USB-C power adapter.
