16-inch MacBook Pro image reveals Touch ID, Touch Bar layout

Rumor has it that Apple is going to launch a redesigned 16-inch MacBook Pro at some point in the near future. And a new image appears to confirm at least one aspect of the oft-rumored device.

9to5Mac has an exclusive image of what’s being referred to as the layout of the Touch Bar and Touch ID in the 16-inch MacBook Pro. The publication states that the image was discovered within the public release of macOS Catalina 10.15.1, and indicates that the Touch ID/Power button will be separate from the Touch Bar itself.

The report adds:

This confirms earlier reports that also mentioned the new machine having a real escape key instead of the software one of the current models.

Apparently the image, which you can see at the top of this article, has been pulled from the recent public release of macOS Catalina 10.15.1, which suggests that Apple is not planning on launching the new 16-inch MacBook Pro before the end of October.

That would line up with a report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from earlier today, revising his expectations to say that Apple plans on launching the new MacBook Pro with a redesigned keyboard (and smaller bezels) sometime in early 2020 and not before the end of 2019.

This is not the first time that macOS Catalina has given us a sign of a 16-inch MacBook Pro. We saw a small icon depicting the new laptop not too long ago, showing off the slightly smaller bezels.

As it stands it doesn’t sound like we’re getting a new MacBook Pro either today or tomorrow, so it may be a wise decision to start any upgrade plans for early next year.
