Is the TV app crashing on your Apple TV following the tvOS 13 update?

According to web reports (as well as my personal experience), Apple’s redesigned TV app provided as part of the latest tvOS 13 update seems to be crashing for some folks.

This happens as you browse around or first swipe down in the Watch Now tab. The problem started after tvOS 13.0 dropped, which is the latest Apple TV update that’s available publicly.

9to5Mac has more:

The issue appears to affect both Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K devices alike, running tvOS 13.0. It’s not a universal issue but the problem appears wide enough from reports that we have seen to our tips inbox and on social media to be worthy of coverage. The TV app on other platforms does not seem to be affected by the same problem.

I can confirm that my Apple TV 4K has been plagued with the same problem.

In fact, the TV app on my Apple TV 4K would unexpectedly quit if I left it alone for a few minutes. I chalked this unusual behavior up to the fact that I maxed out Apple TV storage by downloading a bunch of Arcade titles, but it seems there’s more to it than meets the eye.

The TV app is core part of the entertainment experience on Apple’s media streamer so this is obviously a major pain in the you-know-what. The problem is especially exacerbated by the fact that Apple TV+ is launching November 1 via the TV app.

Apple is likely to squish this bug with an emergency update.

“Apple may also be able to stop the crashes with a server side update, depending on the exact cause of the bug,” the publication speculated.

For what it’s worth, 9to5Mac couldn’t determine if the latest tvOS 13.2 beta addresses the crash bug with the TV app for affected users but we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.
