iDB app 2.0 is now available in the App Store

iDB app 2.0

I am very excited to announce that version 2.0 of the iDB app is now available in the App Store.

The main changes

The first thing you will notice is that we went away from the horizontal scrolling and went with the more typical vertical scrolling. This in itself is a major change, and looking back at all the feedback we got over the years, I’m sure the majority of users will be pretty happy about this change.

The second thing you will notice is that the app supports Dark Mode in iOS 13. The app matches your system’s default, but you can overwrite this and have the app always show in Dark Mode or always show in Light Mode.

Something most people probably will not notice is that the Apple Watch app is gone. Quite frankly, it never really got any traction and usage was so low that it didn’t make sense to continue supporting something that nobody really uses.

Minor changes were also made to the way content is displayed. For the most part, you probably won’t even notice, but just know that if you want to copy text from an article, or zoom in on a photo, well, now you can.

The things that stayed the same

The rest of the app and features have virtually stayed the same: you can still leave comments using Disqus, you can still bookmark articles, and you can still manually clear the app’s cache.

More importantly, you can still unlock more features and support iDB by subscribing to iDB+, an enhanced version of the app that allows you to remove ads, bookmark unlimited items, cache bookmarked items for offline reading, and of course have the satisfaction to know you are directly supporting the site and its editors.

Check it out and let us know what you think

The app update is available now in the App Store. If you don’t see it right away, check back again in an hour or so as the update might still be propagating through the store.

Then please let us know what you think. The good and the bad are welcome!

If you do see a bug or something that’s not working the way it is supposed to, please use the Report a Problem option in the app and send us a detailed email about what exactly is not working.

If you like what you are seeing, we would really appreciate if you could take a minute of your time to rate the app in the App Store.

As always, thank you for your continuing support!
