The Apple TV is all about streaming content, primarily videos, but playing music on the set-top box is also a possibility.

And now the Apple TV has yet another option for owners to choose: Amazon Music. Amazon officially announced the new app for Apple TV (via Cord Cutters News). The Amazon Music app will make it possible for listeners to access hundreds of free songs, or Prime Members can listen to hundreds of free songs, too.

The real benefit of Amazon Music comes from Amazon Music Unlimited, which is Amazon’s competition to things like Apple Music and Spotify, letting subscribers access hundreds of thousands of songs. That service costs $7.99 per month for Prime subscribers, or $9.99 per month for non-members.

We believe that listeners should be able to stream music simply and easily on any device they choose,” said Karolina Joynathsing, director of business development for Amazon Music. “With that in mind, our aim has been to bring listeners more ways to enjoy their favorite music. We’re thrilled to bring the Amazon Music app to Apple TV customers across the globe.

The app is available now for the Apple TV. It joins the brand new Spotify app that launched for the set-top box recently. And of course, Apple Music is baked right into the tvOS operating system for subscribers of Apple’s music streaming service.

If you’re a subscriber to Amazon Music Unlimited, are you excited to see an Apple TV app?
