Earlier this month, Apple not only released iOS 13 to the public, but also the mobile operating system’s first major update, bringing the version number to iOS 13.1. And we continue to move right along.
Sometimes software updates are more essential than they might be in other times. It all comes down to the bugs that are discovered along the way, and especially post launch. Some years are smoother than others. iOS 13’s arrival wasn’t necessarily met with a huge backlash, but there were bugs, which prompted Apple to release iOS 13.1 not even a week later (which also brought with it new features).
iOS 13.1.1 is a minor update in the grand scheme of things, and, given the version number, it will likely only focus on bug squishing and general performance enhancements. While iOS 13.1 was designed to handle a lot of bugs that were discovered in iOS 13, it’s possible that some lingering issues still existed, and this software update will probably address those.
iOS 13.1.1 is available to download and install for free now. iPadOS 13.1.1 is also available.
It was recently reported that a bug within iOS 13 could lead to some third-party keyboards “full access”. At the time Apple said a fix was incoming, but did not say when that patch would release. It’s possible this software update addresses that, among other things.
It is not likely that iOS 13.1.1 will include any new forward-facing features for the end user, though. However, if it is discovered that is not the case, and there are new features in this software update, we will update this post accordingly.

- Resolves a problem where Safari search suggestions may re-enable after turning them off
- Addresses an issue that could cause Reminders to sync slowly
- Fixes a security issue for third-party keyboard apps
