SmartBattery can help improve your jailbroken handset’s battery life

Apple touted significant gains to battery life with the brand-new iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max handsets at this year’s Keynote, but for those still handling older devices, every drop of precious battery juice is vital to a full days’ worth of digital enjoyment.

If you’re jailbroken and looking to improve your battery life throughout daily usage, then you might want to turn your attention to a newly released jailbreak tweak called SmartBattery by iOS developer elias. Like countless other tweaks before it, SmartBattery plays on iOS’ native Low Power Mode feature while adding oodles of additional options to make it right for you.

Some of the things SmartBattery brings to the table include:

  • Setting a custom battery percentage to toggle Low Power Mode
  • Receive low battery notifications such as the one shown above
  • Customize Low Power Mode:
    • Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular Data, etc.
    • Lower display brightness
    • Lower volume level
    • Enable Smart Color Invert for OLED devices
  • Activator integration
  • Display battery percentage inside the battery icon on modern X-style handsets

Once installed, SmartBattery adds a preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure several options to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle SmartBattery on or off on demand
  • Choose a battery percentage at which Low Power Mode will be turned on
  • Choose whether Smart Color Invert gets enabled with Low Power Mode
  • Disable Wi-Fi when Low Power Mode gets turned on
  • Disable Bluetooth when Low Power Mode gets turned on
  • Disable cellular data when Low Power Mode gets turned on
  • Lower the brightness level to a set amount when Low Power Mode gets turned on
  • Lower the volume level to a set amount when Low Power Mode gets turned on
  • Enable the custom battery icon with integrated percentage
  • Enable low power voice alerts
  • Enable low power notifications
  • Configure Activator integration
  • Customize your Low Power Mode experience

The developer provides a Respring button at the top right of the preference pane that can be used to save your settings on demand. We recommend using this, otherwise your settings won’t be saved.

While it’s tough to say for certain whether SmartBattery actually improves battery life by a substantial amount, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to say that some of these features and options thwart Apple’s native Low Power Mode implementation.

Those interested in trying SmartBattery can download it for $1.99 from the Packix repository in Cydia or Sileo. The tweak works with jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices.
