This tweak makes the Home Bar display your current battery level

Many of Apple’s latest handsets lack a physical Home button, and instead rely on a software-based Home Bar for App Switcher activation, returning to the Home screen, and unlocking the device. Apart from these functionalities, however, the Home Bar itself is somewhat featureless.

If you’d like to give your iOS device’s Home Bar a welcomed helping of new functionality, then we’d recommend turning your attention to a newly released and free jailbreak tweak called BatteryHomeBar by iOS developer Braxton Anderson.

As you might have inferred from the tweak’s name already, BatteryHomeBar integrates a full-fledged battery level indicator into the Home Bar. In the screenshot example above, you’ll notice that the Home Bar is only partially filled green, denoting a 67% battery charge. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this indicator updates in real time to reflect your current battery percentage.

Once installed, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane for BatteryHomeBar in the Settings app where you can configure a few options to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle BatteryHomeBar on or off on demand
  • Enable or disable the Home Bar outline
  • Choose how the battery percentage shrinks (right-to-left or edges-to-center)
  • Configure a custom Home Bar background color

When finished customizing the tweak, you’ll want to tap on the blue Apply button at the top right of the preference pane. This writes your latest settings to the tweak’s configuration file, ensuring that they’re saved.

If you’re interested in spicing up your handset’s Home Bar, then you can download BatteryHomeBar for free from the BigBoss repository in Cydia or Sileo. The tweak supports all jailbroken handsets running iOS 11 or iOS 12, and should also play nicely with non-notched handsets as long as they’re using a Home Bar simulation tweak of some sort.
