Apple seeds third public betas of iOS 13.1 and iPadOS 13.1 to testers

Moving right along, Apple is seeding the latest public beta of iOS and iPadOS for public beta testers.

Apple on Wednesday seeded the third public beta of iOS and iPadOS 13.1. This follows the first developer beta of the same software in late August. Despite the fact that Apple has not actually launched iOS 13 to the public, Apple has decided to start testing the mobile operating system’s first major update.

To update, folks registered within the public beta program will receive an over-the-air update after they’ve installed the proper configuration profile on their handset(s). And, as usual, this is prerelease software so it should not be installed on a daily driver. Instead, the software should only be installed on secondary handsets just in case there are any major issues coupled with the software.

iOS 13.1 does add some new features to the already packed list of new content coming to iOS 13 (including Dark Mode and much more), most of which Apple removed in the iOS 13 betas ahead of the public launch later this year. That includes the Share ETA feature within Apple Maps, which allows users to quickly share their estimated time of arrival with a friend or family member directly.

Shortcuts Automations are also added back with iOS 13.1, there are tweaks to the AirPods volume indicator, general improvements to mouse support, new HomeKit icons, and much more.

If you want to sign up for the public beta program, you can do so here.

Apple is set to launch iOS 13 to the public on Thursday, September 19. Meanwhile, the public launch of iPadOS will take place on Monday, September 30.
