Apple says leather and denim can cause ‘permanent discoloration’ on Apple Card

The physical Apple Card is a titanium design, a high-end card that’s meant to showcase itself when removed from a wallet. As such, it’s not at all surprising that Apple is offering up ways to keep the card looking fresh and clean.

Apple published a support document this week that outlines how to keep the Apple Card clean, and some important details about how to store the Apple Card on a daily basis. If your Apple Card does get dirty, Apple suggests using a lint-free microfiber cloth that is slightly damp.

From Apple:

If your titanium Apple Card comes into contact with contaminants that can cause stains, follow these steps to clean your card:

  1. Gently wipe with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free microfiber cloth.
  2. Moisten a soft, microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the card.

Don’t use window or household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, or abrasives to clean your titanium Apple Card.

Apple also notes that some fabrics can cause “permanent discoloration” that will not wash off. Apple specifically names leather and denim as two fabrics that can do this.

Apple goes through some steps on how to “safely store” your Apple Card, too. The company says you should always store the titanium credit card in a wallet, pocket, or bag that is “made of soft materials”. Apple also says the Apple Card should not come in contact with another credit card, because your Apple Card could get scratched.

Here are some other important points:

  • Don’t place or store your titanium Apple Card card near magnets. If your card is placed close to a magnetic latch on a purse or bag, the magnetic strip can become demagnetized.
  • Don’t place your titanium Apple Card in a pocket or bag that contains loose change, keys, or other potentially abrasive objects.

There we go, some easy steps on storing and cleaning the Apple Card.

Have you received your physical Apple Card yet? If so, what do you think of the titanium design?
