Unc0ver v3.5.3 released with ‘partial’ support for A12(X) devices running iOS 12.1.3-12.4 [u]

Pwn20wnd has been hard at work over the last several days adding support for iOS 12.4 to the unc0ver jailbreak, and several updates later, it’s now more reliable on iOS 12.4 than it was at the time of the initial release; but one thing was missing since the start: A12(X) support.

Pwn20wnd addressed this concern Monday afternoon by releasing unc0ver v3.5.3, which brings ‘partial’ support for A12(X) devices running iOS 12.1.3-12.4. This should sound familiar to most since unc0ver already ‘partially’ supported A12(X) devices on earlier firmware versions.

Note: This update has been temporarily pulled due to stability issues some people were having.

The full change log for unc0ver v3.5.3 as per Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub page is as follows:

08/19/2019 – v3.5.3 was released for production with the following changes:

– Add WIP partial support for A12-A12X devices on iOS 12.1.3, 12.1.4, 12.2 and 12.4 with support for setting HSP#4 as TFP0, setting kernel_task info, exporting kernel_task port, dumping APTicket, logging KASLR shift and ECID and disabling auto updates

Partial A12(X) support means that neither Cydia nor Cydia Substrate will be installed once jailbroken, as Saurik has been both unable and unwilling to update Cydia Substrate for A12(X) handsets because of how complex Apple has made it.

This obviously means that users can’t just search for and install jailbreak tweaks through Cydia as they normally would on a pre-A12(X) handset; on the other hand, it’s perfect for developers and advanced users who just feel like tinkering.

It’s worth noting that Pwn20wnd has been working on a Substitute implementation as a Cydia Substrate replacement on A12(X) devices for quite some time, and from what we can gather, significant progress is being made. There’s no ETA for release, however.

If you’re using an earlier version of unc0ver, then you needn’t trouble yourself will downloading and deploying the latest version unless you feel like jailbreaking an A12(X) device ‘partially.’ As always, you can download the latest version of unc0ver from Pwn20wnd’s GitHub page, and you can also use our step-by-step tutorial if you need help using the jailbreak tool on your own.
