Unc0ver v3.5.0 released with support for iOS 12.4

In an unforeseen turn of events, hacker Pwn20wnd released v3.5.0 of the unc0ver jailbreak tool to the general public Sunday morning with official support for iOS 12.4, the latest available firmware release from Apple with support for Apple Card.

Update: iOS 12.4.1 is now available as of Monday, August 26th, and this update patches the exploit for iOS 12.4

Pwn20wnd announced the update just a few minutes ago via Twitter:

Citing the official changelog on Pwn20wnd’s GitHub repository, unc0ver v3.5.0 incorporates the following changes:

08/18/2019 – v3.5.0 was released for production with the following changes:

– Add iOS 12.4 support to the Sock Puppet (A8-A11) and Sock Port (A7-A7X) exploits

iOS 12.4 the latest available firmware for all of Apple’s mobile devices including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and that’s why this is particularly big news for everyone who has an interest in jailbreaking. It’s not often these days that we can say we have a working jailbreak for the latest release of iOS.

From what we can gather, the newfangled iOS 12.4 support comes by way of the tried and true Sock Puppet and Sock Port exploits. Hacker Jake James explains that Apple patched these exploits in iOS 12.3, but apparently ‘un-patched’ them again in iOS 12.4 for unknown reasons. This was undoubtedly a fluke on Apple’s behalf.

Unc0ver v3.5.0 can jailbreak iOS 12.4 on A7-A11 devices, but A12(X) devices are still excluded at this time. Pwn20wnd also adds that while the jailbreak works on iOS 12.4, the success rate is lower than it was on previous versions of iOS.

It’s worth noting that iOS 12.4 also brings support for Apple Card, a credit card that can be requested through the Wallet app for use with Apple Pay or as a standalone credit card. Apple has been open in saying that using a jailbroken device in conjunction with your Apple Card may result in a terminated credit card account for ‘security reasons.’

As always, you can download the latest version of the unc0ver jailbreak from Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub repository. We also have an in-depth tutorial showcasing how to jailbreak with unc0ver for those who might want some help through the initial jailbreaking process.
