This tweak turns the Safari app on your Home screen into a real compass

One of my all-time favorite jailbreak tweaks was once LiveClock by iOS developer Ryan Petrich, and while Apple has since implemented its functionality into iOS right out of the box, that never changed my appreciation for small, yet fun and quirky jailbreak tweaks of similar nature.

One of the latest jailbreak tweaks to fall under this category of fun and quirkiness is a new and free release called LiveSafari by iOS developer Skitty. Perhaps unsurprisingly, LiveSafari animates the native Safari app icon on your Home screen such that the compass arrow always points to the North.

For those curious, here’s an animated GIF showcasing LiveSafari in all its glory:

LifeSafari doesn’t come with any options to configure, and if memory serves us right, neither did Petrich’s LiveClock tweak.

The primary purpose of the tweak is to make one of your Home screen’s Safari app icon more interesting in a somewhat creative way, and it certainly accomplishes that without necessitating any configuration on the user’s part. That said, if you ever wanted to disable the tweak, then you’d have to uninstall it.

It remains to be seen how LiveSafari might impact battery life, but we haven’t noticed anything detrimental in our limited testing. If anything, the tweak only uses battery life when you’re looking at your Home screen, as it doesn’t need to pull your location any other time.

If you’re interested in trying LiveSafari, then you can download it for free from Skitty’s repository in Cydia or Sileo. The tweak supports all jailbroken iOS 11, 12, 13, and 14 devices and its source code is available on the developer’s GitHub page for those interested.
