It appears to be a big day for the Electra Team. Just this morning, the iOS 12-centric Chimera jailbreak received an update to version 1.2.3 with support for certain builds of the iOS 12.3 beta, and in addition to that, the tvOS-centric ChimeraTV jailbreak was updated to version 1.2.2 with support for tvOS 12.2 on the Apple TV 4K.
The Electra team shared both announcements this morning via Twitter, linking to the newly-updated jailbreak tools on the Chimera website in the process:
From what we can gather, there are a couple of caveats in these new Chimera and ChimeraTV updates, such as:
- Chimera 1.2.3 does not support iOS 12.3 beta 6, but most of the earlier beta builds are supported
- ChimeraTV 1.2.2 supports up to tvOS 12.2 on the Apple TV 4K, but the 1080p Apple TV 4 is only supported up to tvOS 12.1.1
It’s worth noting that Chimera v1.2.3 still doesn’t support A7-A8 or A12(X) devices running iOS 12.1.3-12.2 at the time of this writing, but that could potentially change in the future. At this time, Chimera’s implementation of @NedWilliamson’s Sock Puppet exploit only jailbreaks A9-A11 devices running iOS 12.1.3-12.2.
A Tweet shared by Pwn20wnd this morning indicates that the competing unc0ver jailbreak may also soon receive support for at least certain versions of the iOS 12.3 beta, assuming it can be tested:
As always, we’ll continue to keep you updated about the situation.
If you would like to download the latest version of Chimera or ChimeraTV, then you can do so from the official Chimera website. We also have in-depth tutorials regarding how to jailbreak with Chimera and with ChimeraTV for those interested.
