iOS’ notification system certainly gets the point across when you receive a notification, but it hasn’t had much of an aesthetic overhaul for quite some time now. If you’re jailbroken and in the market for a somewhat exhilarating new notification experience, then you might take a liking to a newly-released jailbreak tweak dubbed GlyphAlert by iOS developer c1d3r.
Just as the name implies, GlyphAlert takes a glyph-centric approach to letting you know when you have an incoming notification. The glyphs, such as those shown in the screenshot examples above, are animated and can be assigned to specific applications, depending on what they represent.

Upon installing GlyphAlert, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:
Here, you can:
- Enable or disable GlyphAlert on demand
- Configure the applications that will use GlyphAlert
- Choose how many times the glyph animations will loop
- Choose between global or dynamic glyph coloring options
- Configure a custom color if you chose the global option
When configuring GlyphAlert for a specific application, you will be presented with the following options:
- Enable or disable GlyphAlert for that specific application
- Choose between global, static, or dynamic colorization for that specific application
- Choose a specific color for the glyphs if you chose the global option
- Choose the glyph animation that you’d like to use:

As you might’ve noticed, the list of animated glyph options is quite extensive, and this is good because you might want to assign glyphs to a plethora of different apps you have installed. As you might come to expect, you may not always find a suitable glyph for one of your applications, and that’s why the developer has created an online form to request new glyphs.
From what we see, GlyphAlert is a well-made tweak with fantastic out-of-the-box support for several glyph styles.
