Benchmarks reveal base 2019 13-inch MacBook Pro boasts a significant speed boost

Benchmarks reveal that the newest 13-inch MacBook Pro is the recipient of a huge speed boost compared to older models.

Earlier this week, Apple launched a new 13-inch MacBook Pro, which saw some important changes as far as specifications go. That includes new processors under the hood from Intel, starting with an 8th-generation quad-core i5 processor clocked at 1.4GHz. From a single-core performance perspective via Geekbench (via MacRumors), the new 13-inch MacBook Pro sees a 6.8 percent speed increase when compared to the base 2017 model with a score of 4,639.

The big boost comes from the multi-core performance score, which is 16,665 — an impressive 83.4 percent speed improvement when compared to the base 2017 model. These are average scores, with the 2017 base model’s average scores coming in at 4,341 for the single-core, and 9,084 for the multi-core score.

There is only one Geekbench benchmark for the 13-inch MacBook Pro equipped with an 8th-generation Intel Core i7 clocked at 1.7GHz, but that shows a single-core score of 4,835 and a multi-core score of 15,515. All of these scores are variable, though, and with only one result to go on for now, the average could change over time.

It’s hard to argue with the benchmarks, even though it all comes down to personal use in the end and just how much stress you’re putting on a machine. Still, if you’re in the market for a new MacBook Pro and you’ve had your eyes set on the early-2019 models, it looks like you’ll be getting some powerful notebooks.
