Luminous adds a customizable underglow to your Home screen’s app icons

If you’re in the market to add a bit of quirkiness to your iOS device’s Home screen, then you might want to look into a new jailbreak tweak called Luminous by iOS developer Sirius24.

As you’ll notice in the screenshot examples above, Luminous gives every one of your Home screen’s app icons a colored underglow. But perhaps more importantly, the tweak is fully-configurable, allowing just about anyone to achieve the look and feel that they’re aiming for.

If Luminous’ aesthetic seems eerily familiar to you, then that’s because it’s based on a similar tweak from the same developer called Firefly, which we showed you around two months ago. The primary difference between each of them is that Firefly only provides the underglow when you have missed notifications for a specific app, while Luminous offers the underglow all the time.

After you install Luminous, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle Luminous on or off on demand
  • Configure the color that you’d like to use for your underglow effect
  • Toggle adaptive color mode
  • Enable underglow for folder icons
  • Hide application labels to make the underglow effect look better
  • Add apps to your blacklist (if they don’t look good with an underglow)

One thing we really love about Luminous is the ability to choose between custom colors or adaptive colors. More importantly, we like that you can blacklist certain apps because not all apps play nicely with jailbreak add-ons.

Another thing worth noting is that the developer provides a Respring button at the top right of the preference pane. You’ll want to use this any time you make changes to the preference pane to ensure that those changes take effect.

Depending on your idea of the ideal customized Home screen, Luminous might be a viable option for you. The tweak is available for $1.99 from the Packix repository in Cydia or Sileo, and if you already own Firefly, then you can purchase Luminous for 75% off (that’s only $0.50). Moreover, Luminous should work with all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices.
