OWC’s external USB-C SSD offers 2TB of storage, Thunderbolt 3 & insane speeds

Canadian Mac specialists Other World Computing (OWC), which has its headquartered in Illinois, today launched what they’re calling their fastest USB-C SSD yet, a new version of its standalone Envoy Pro EX with USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 compatibility, up to two terabytes of flash storage and an anodized aluminum housing for the drive featuring IP67-rated water and dust resistance.

Introducing the fastest USB-C SSD

With Mac and Windows compatibility, as well as read and write speeds averaging 980 megabytes per second, this versatile external NVMe M.2 SSD drive can be used to power a number of mobile workflows that demand fast data transfer, like 4K video editing and more.

Larry O’Connor, OWC’s founder and CEO:

This is unquestionably the fastest USB-C SSD ever produced, period. Our Envoy Pro EX family of SSDs has been a massive hit with both our pro and prosumer customers, especially for demanding workflows in-studio or rugged environments.

It can be connected directly to the latest USB-C cameras from Blackmagic Design.

You can even record directly from USB-C cameras! The bus-powered accessory is truly compact, weighing in at just 148 grams, or about .33 ounces.

The anodized aluminum housing with the silver matte finish is 100% dust-proof with an IP67 waterproof rating that’s certified to survive half an hour in one meter of water. And because there are no moving parts and no power adapter, the drive works in complete silence.

The best thing about it — thanks to robust external storage support in the Files app on iOS 13 and iPadOS, you can hook up this SSD to your iPhone and iPad to copy files to and from it, delete items, create new folders and even import stuff directly into iOS apps like Lightroom.
