How to remove a member or leave Family Sharing on iPhone, iPad and Mac

Manage Family Sharing Group on Mac

Family Sharing is a convenient feature for sharing music, books, apps, photos, and other items with up to five family members. But what if there comes a time when Family Sharing is no longer needed? Maybe the kids have grown and left home to set up their own Family Sharing. Or maybe you simply no longer want to use Family Sharing.

You can remove a family group member or leave Family Sharing on iPhone, iPad, and Mac and here’s how.

Remove a member or leave Family Sharing

Any member that’s age 13 or older can leave a Family Sharing group on their own. However, if you are the organizer, you cannot leave the group if you have a child under 13 years old in it. You must first transfer them to another group. To remove someone or yourself from a Family Sharing group, do the following.

Leave Family Sharing on iPhone or iPad

1) Open your Settings and select your Apple ID.

2) Select Family Sharing.

3) Choose your name and tap Leave Family or your member’s name and tap Remove [name].

After you remove a member or yourself from a Family Sharing group, the content shared by the family is no longer available to the removed person. This can include an Apple Music subscription, storage plan, game, or app.

Any content that your family shared with you isn’t automatically removed from your device. You can purchase it again or remove it to free up space on your device.
