Apple seeds first public beta of iOS 13 and iPadOS to public testers

Apple on Monday officially seeded the first public beta of iOS 13 and iPadOS to public testers.

The company had initially slated July as the first public beta launch month, but the company has decided to change course. The first public beta of iOS 13 and iPadOS are now officially available for those in the public beta testing program. For those who are not already part of the program, you can sign up right here.

Apple announced iOS 13 and the brand new iPadOS at this year’s WWDC. Both pieces of software are major updates for the iPhone and iPad, respectively. They add a variety of new features, including a system wide Dark Mode, a new home screen for iPads, and much, much more.

For the public beta testers out there, there is an over-the-air update to be downloaded and installed to get the new software on your registered device, after installing the appropriate certificate.

As far as new features are concerned, there is the aforementioned Dark Mode (which is also available in iPadOS), as well as a brand new, redesigned Photos app that offers a more robust way to look at your photos and videos. There are new photo editing options, a new volume HUD, the redesigned Find My app, and the new Sign In with Apple that will bring a far more secured way to log into apps and websites using Apple’s service.

Maps has a new street view, which Apple calls “Look Around“, which is similar to Google’s own effort.

Meanwhile, iPadOS is primarily a branched version of iOS 13, and, as such, looks practically identical. However, there are some iPad-specific elements added to the mix, including a new Home screen that allows support for the Today view of widgets to be present at all times.

There is much more.

However, it’s worth noting here that if you do plan on using either one of the new public beta seeds, be aware that there might be issues in the software, including bugs and performance problems.
