According to a refreshed support document, customers in supported countries can now set up Apple Pay as their payment method for purchases made in iTunes and App Stores, as well as cover their Apple Music subscriptions and iCloud storage upgrades with Apple Pay.
This works for Apple Books purchases as well.
MacRumors explains that people may want to use Apple Pay for purchases tied to their Apple ID because the mobile payments system is more secure than other payment methods.
In addition to that, don’t forget that Apple Pay allows you to choose between multiple credit or debit cards on the fly, when making these store purchases, and that’s something you just couldn’t do before unless you manually changed your Apple ID payment method.
This feature is currently supported in eight countries:
- Australia
- Canada
- Hong Kong
- Russia
- Singapore
- Taiwan
- Ukraine
- United States
You only need to link a credit or debit card with your Apple ID account:
1) Open the Settings app on your device.
2) Choose iTunes & App Store from the main list.
3) Tap your Apple ID email at the top, then choose View Apple ID from the menu.
4) Select Manage Payments.
5) Tap Add Payment Method.
6) Choose a card listed underneath the Found in Wallet heading.
You will, of course, need to first add a credit or debit card that you’d like to use with store purchases in the Wallet app. This is a server-side change so no update is necessary.
US users can also link an Apple Pay Cash card to their Apple ID account.
