Maps aren’t just useful for getting you where you need to be when driving or walking. Apple Maps has a wonderful feature that provides indoor maps for airports, malls, and train stations.
These locations can be tough to navigate, even if you do find a directory inside. And if you’re in a hurry to get to your gate for a flight, or need to find a restroom in a hurry, Apple Maps can get you there quick.
Use indoor maps for airports in Apple Maps
Indoor airport maps are not available for every airports, but more are added all the time. For a complete list of airports supported, check out the Apple Support site.
1) Open the Maps app on your device and tap the search box.
2) Enter the airport name and tap it from the suggestions.
3) You’ll then see options for things like terminals, check-ins, gates, bag claims, food, drinks, shops, restrooms, etc.
4) Tap one to see the spots plotted on the map as well as listed for you. This allows you to select one from either the map or the list for a closer look. Zoom in or out as needed to navigate your way around the airport.
After you zoom in significantly, you can also tap the L1, L2, L3, and similar icons at the top right and select a level/floor for the airport or mall. Note that even though you may see several levels, all of those may not be accessible to the general public; instead, they may be offices, control rooms, storerooms, etc.
Use indoor maps for shopping malls
Some shopping malls can be enormous. And if you need a restroom quickly or are just there to find a specific store, you probably don’t want to mess around with window shopping. Apple Maps gives you indoor maps for many malls around the world.
1) Open Apple Maps on your device and tap the search box. Now, enter the mall name and select it.
2) You’ll then see options for things like clothes, shoes, restrooms, food, drinks, beauty, and more. Tap one to see the locations on the map as well as in a list to get a closer look and nagivate to it.
