Sileo beta preview updated to version 0.8b12 as CoolStar announces plans for Electra12

The Sileo Team pushed another update for the Sileo beta preview on Monday, bringing the package manager up from version 0.8b11 to 0.8b12.

As you might come to expect, the Sileo Team announced the update via Twitter just this morning, elucidating what was new in the Tweet:

Sileo 0.8b12

– Improves the performance of Sileo further when refreshing repos and/or installing packages

– Removes support for MD5 and SHA1 hashes on non-HTTPS repos

As CoolStar Tweeted over Easter weekend, repoproxy now supports SHA256 hashes for packages hosted on the BigBoss, ModMyi, and ZodTTD repositories, and this makes it compatible with APT 1.8 – the perfect concoction for Sileo:

CoolStar also Tweeted Monday morning, noting that the Electra Team would likely only provide Sileo as an option for Electra12, dropping Cydia as an option since the Electra Team doesn’t officially support it as team unc0ver does:

In a follow-up DM, we asked CoolStar to clarify his Tweet and he mentioned that “Cydia is not compatible with the newer tools we’re shipping with Electra12.” This would indicate that users won’t be able to manually install Cydia on Electra12 either.

The Electra Team teased the speed and zippiness of its Sileo app on the upcoming Electra12 jailbreak for iOS 12.0-12.1.2 just under two weeks ago. They also showed speed differences between the app running on an iPhone X and an iPhone 6s.

If you have an iOS 11 handset jailbroken with Electra already, then you can download and install the latest version of Sileo from the default Electra repository. Those who aren’t jailbroken can side-load the Sileo Demo version 0.8b11 .ipa with Cydia Impactor to try it out for themselves.

Keep in mind, however, that Sileo is still in its beta stages, and so bugs and missing features are to be expected at the time of this writing.
