Lionsgate’s former executive Danielle DePalma to oversee Apple’s film and TV series marketing

Apple has hired Danielle DePalma, studio Lionsgate’s former Executive Vice President of Worldwide Digital Marketing & Research, as its Senior Film and TV Series Marketing executive tasked with pushing the company’s upcoming Apple TV+ video-streaming service.

Deadline reported today that in her new role DePalma will be reporting directly to Chris Van Amburg, Apple’s Head of Video Marketing and former Sony Television executive.

DePalma was a Lionsgate veteran who spent about a decade at the company before leaving in January. At Lionsgate she previously served as SVP digital marketing and VP new media and marketing, overseeing the digital/social media campaigns for such movies as The Hunger Games franchise and Kick-Ass.

DePalma departed Lionsgate in January.

Aside from buying shows on Hollywood, Apple has been building out the creative and management teams for its original video programming efforts in the past two years.

Recently, the Cupertino teach giant hired former WGA America President Matt Cherniss, TV veteran Michelle Lee, Amazon Studios executive Morgan Wandell and others.

Among the many original shows, documentaries and movies coming to Apple TV+ later this fall: a network morning-show drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon and a revival of Steve Spielberg’s anthology TV series “Amazing Stories.”
