Apple announces 2019 Earth Day activity challenge for Apple Watch wearers

Apple today officially announced the rules and awards in its latest Activity challenge for Apple Watch wearers, designed to celebrate Earth Day next Monday, April 22.

The challenge encourages Apple Watch wearers to complete any outdoor workout of 30 minutes or more to earn a special Earth Day award and unique animated stickers for Messages and FaceTime. These awards will appear under the Achievements tab in the Activity app.

You can initiate any workout type, in either the stock Workout app or your favorite third-party fitness app, as long as it writes data to the Health database.

The new Activity challenge was leaked a few days ago by Kyle Seth Gray.

The Cupertino company will invite all Apple Watch owners to participate in the 2019 Earth Day Activity challenge by issuing a notification a day before the event.

The official text of the challenge will read as follows:

On April 22, get outside, celebrate the planet and earn this award by doing any workout for 30 minutes or more. Record your time with the Workout app or any app that adds workouts to Health.

As mentioned, Earth Day falls on Monday, April 22.
