App Store to honor 2019 Earth Day with original stories, themed collections of apps and games

This year’s Earth Day falls on next Monday, April 22. Apple previously honored Earth Day with themed app collections and editorials on App Store. This year will be no different.

According to today’s announcement shared in Apple Newsroom, the Cupertino technology giant will be featuring “original stories and collections of apps and games on App Store” in order to help people “honor the Earth and consider their role in the natural ecosystem”.

Additionally, Apple Watch wearers will be challenged to complete any 30 minute or more workout on Monday to earn a special Earth Day award and animated stickers for Messages.

In the lead up to Earth Day, the Cupertino giant commissioned a nature-focused film, titled “Don’t Mess With Mother (Nature),” shot on the iPhone XS cameras by professional crews with a little help from additional rigs like cinema-quality lenses and stabilizers.

Last but not least, the company today released the latest Environmental Responsibility report, an 87-page PDF document covering its environmental strides throughout fiscal 2018. The company’s overall carbon footprint was down 35 percent versus 2015 while some 4.8 million metric tons of carbon emissions were reduced compared with the previous report.

And lastly, Tim Cook & Co. will also be supporting the efforts of environmentally-focused non-profits Conservation International, SEE Foundation and The Recycling Partnership in an effort to expand on Apple’s conservation and resource efficiency work from last year.

If prior events are an indication, Apple may (and probably will) honor this year’s Earth Day with revamped signage at its brick-and-mortar stores sporting green leaves and other adornments.
