Hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd dropped a significant update for his jailbreak tool on Saturday with an extensive list of changes that purportedly “fixes all known stability issues” on jailbroken installations of iOS 11.0-12.1.2.
Pwn20wnd announced the updated version of the jailbreak tool, dubbed unc0ver v3.0.0 beta 49, via Twitter earlier in the day:
According to the changelog posted on Pwn20wnd’s GitHub page, the 49th beta of unc0ver incorporates the following changes:
04/06/2019 – v3.0.0~b49 was released for public testing with the following changes:
– Fix overnight reboots or system memory resets triggered by mmaintenanced
– Fix freezing under low-memory conditions on iOS 12
– Fix freezing when loading tweaks or when securityd is being restarted on iOS 12
– Fix a kernel memory leak
– Fix a faulty sandbox patch
– Store offsets in the live kernel memory
– Optimize the code
– Improve the success rate of machswap and machswap2
– Don’t reboot after extracting bootstrap
– Fix a bug in logging
– Improve performance
– Improve assertion
– Update the APT lists cache file for repositories
In a follow-up Tweet, Pwn20wnd addressed a common concern among his user base: why the unc0ver jailbreak tool has been in beta for so long and why there have been so many beta releases. According to the hacker’s response, unc0ver won’t come out of beta until a full A12(X) jailbreak is achieved.
At the time of this writing, unc0ver only partially supports A12(X) devices, and full support is currently waiting on a Cydia Substrate update from Saurik. There’s no ETA concerning when that update will materialize, but we don’t expect that the wait will be too much longer.
If you’re already jailbroken on iOS 12 with the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release, then you’re advised to download and run this update as soon as possible to take full advantage of the new features and improvements.
On the other hand, the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release is still in beta, and while it might be tempting to hop onboard right now, we’d strongly advise that novice jailbreakers wait for the official public release. This beta is mostly intended for developers and jailbreak power-users.
The latest public release of the unc0ver jailbreak tool is v2.2.6 with support for iOS 11.0-11.4 beta 4 – the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release is the only iteration that supports iOS 11.4-11.4.1. Both versions of the unc0ver jailbreak tool can be had from Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub repository.
