ChargeAnimation brings a plethora of new charging animations to iOS

Whenever you plug your iPhone or iPad into a power source, a familiar battery icon appears on the Lock screen in place the date and time to depict your battery’s current charge. This implementation works, but it’s not quite as aesthetically pleasing as some would have hoped. Fortunately, jailbreakers now have a way to make this interface more interesting.

Say hello to a jailbreak tweak called ChargeAnimations by iOS developer c1der, which as you might have inferred already from the name, brings a bevy of new charging animations to your pwned handset.

One of the animations that really made ChargeAnimations stand out from the rest was the Xaiomi Miui animation, which was recently requested by avid jailbreakers on /r/jailbreak. That aside, ChargeAnimations also brings a number of other highly-requested charging animations to the iOS platform, such as the native Apple Watch charging animation and the Edge animation.

To give you an idea of the types of animations that ChargeAnimations brings to the table, we’ve created some animated GIFs that you can peek at below:

As you can see for yourself, ChargeAnimations has no shortage of cool charging animations to pick from, and you can designate which one you want to use and more from the tweak’s preference pane in the Settings app:

Here, you can:

  • Enable or disable the animation on the Lock screen
  • Always On / Loop the animation until you interact with your device
  • Force the device to sleep after the animation ends
  • Hide the stock battery icon/animation in place of the new animation
  • Configure a custom background color for Lock screen via way of color picker
  • Enable or disable the animation on SpringBoard
  • Configure a custom background color for SpringBoard by way of color picker
  • Select the animation that you want to use:

We enjoy the variety of charging animations that come pre-loaded into ChargeAnimations so much that we can personally give this tweak our recommendation to our readers. We particularly like the wide variety available to choose from in addition to the colorization options; with that said, you can tailor this tweak to your individual needs.

ChargeAnimations isn’t hosted in any of Cydia’s default or major repositories, and there’s no telling if that will change in the future. In the meantime, you can download ChargeAnimations for $1.99 from c1d3r’s repository; to add it and download the tweak, you’ll need to follow these steps:

1) Launch the Cydia app and go to the Sources tab.

2) Tap on the Edit button and then tap on the Add button.

3) In the text field of the pop-up that appears, type in the following repository URL:

http://c1d3r.com/repo

4) Tap on the Add Source button and wait for the repository to load into Cydia.

5) Now you should be able to search for and install SmartLight from Cydia.

ChargeAnimations plays nicely with all jailbroken iOS 11 and iOS 12 devices. Will you be installing it? Let us know why or why not in the comments section below.
