Following numerous delays, Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls: Blades finally hits App Store

First announced at E3 in the summer of 2018, this promising title was then shown at Apple’s “Gather Round” iPhone XS event in September 2018, and now it’s available on App Store.

This massive first person role-playing game features stunning environments and enemies rendered with all-new visual effects and post-processing techniques that push the limits of what’s possible on mobile. That’s exactly why Apple invited Bethesda’s Todd Howard to show off Blades last September as a showcase of the power of the new A12 Bionic chip.

Created by Bethesda Game Studios, Blades has you playing as a member of an elite group of agents, called the Blades, who have been forced into exile. On the run, you return to your hometown to find it destroyed.

The iPhone and iPad download includes dungeon adventures, an advanced combat system, one-on-one battles and more. You can create and customize your city, restoring it to greatness, develop characters, as well as discover unique weapons, armor and abilities.

TouchArcade has more:

For anyone who has recently awoken from an eight-month coma and may have missed the announcement of The Elder Scrolls: Blades, it really is a full realization of the Elder Scrolls series on mobile.

Of course, the restrictions of the ambitious one-handed control system means the game is more focused on linear exploration instead of the gargantuan open-ended sprawl of the likes of Skyrim, but with beautiful graphics and a really intuitive combat system, The Elder Scrolls: Blades definitely looks like the AAA mobile title we’ve been waiting for.

To play the game, you must have a Bethesda account and register for early access at PlayBlades.com. Bethesda says that Arena modes will be added later so visit visit elderscrolls.com for updates on this mode.

The early access process isn’t smooth. First, they’re sending invites in waves. And second, the game’s servers are planned to launch on the original March 31 launch date at midnight.

Unfortunately, this is a free-to-play download with in-app purchases ranging from two bucks for a pouch of gems to a hundred bucks for an “imperial coffer”.
