Sonus12 is a minimalist, yet customizable volume HUD for iOS

We feel like we’re beating a dead horse every time we say that the iPhone’s native volume HUD sucks, so we’ll just skim past that line and get right to the point of why you clicked on this post. Say hello to a new jailbreak tweak called Sonus12, a drop-dead gorgeous volume HUD replacement for iPhones and iPads by iOS developer ubik.

Sonus12 is minimalistic by design, which prevents it from obstructing your view when you adjust your handset’s volume level. By default, it appears at the top of the display, and it’s very compact.

Once installed, Sonus12 puts a preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure it to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle Sonus12 on or off on demand
  • Customize Sonus12’s appearance
  • Customize Sonus12’s size and position
  • Customize Sonus12’s animation

We’ll break down those preference pane sections for your convenience in the outline below:

Animation

  • Adjust how long the animation endures for via slider
  • Adjust the slider duration via slider

As you can see for yourself, Sonus12 isn’t shy of any customization options, which makes it ideal for anyone who likes crafting things to their ideal appearance. Of course, we think that the stock settings are beautiful enough given just how atrocious Apple’s volume HUD on iOS is.

If you’re interested in trying Sonus12 for yourself, then you can download the tweak from Cydia’s Packix repository for just $1.75. The tweak supports all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices.

Do you think Sonus12 is an improvement over the native volume HUD interface in iOS? Tell us why or why not in the comments section below.
