We’re following along live with Apple’s ‘It’s show time’ media event, and Tim Cook has just made the first big announcement: Apple News+.
As the name suggests, it’s a premium news service that offers access to over 300 magazines, subscriptions for digital outlets like TechCrunch and the Skimm, and more traditional outlets like The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times newspapers.
Apple has tried the digital magazine thing before, but this is an entirely new strategy. As you can see in the images, users will be able to browse for and flip through all of their favorite magazines—from Vogue to Billboard—which are presented in a beautiful interface. And of course Apple will continue to curate and recommend articles for you based on your interests.

We think the breadth and quality of publications within Apple News+ will encourage more people to discover stories and titles they may never have come across before.
For some publications, they even do motion covers.

So, how much will Apple charge for this thing?
Apple News+ available starting today (via iOS 12.2 and macOS 10.14.4) in the US for $9.99 per month and in Canada for $12.99 per month.
There is a free one-month trial, so you can see what you’re getting for the money, and it’s also worth pointing out that Apple says there is no tracking or targeting by third-party advertisers.
