Customers begin receiving shipping notifications for new AirPods orders

Last Wednesday, Apple quietly unveiled their second-generation AirPods with Hey Siri and a few other perks. Customers who placed an order for the enhanced wireless earbuds are now starting to receive shipping notifications from couriers with delivery from Tuesday, March 26, the day following the company’s “It’s Showtime” star-studded press event.

Tim Hardwick, writing for MacRumors:

People who ordered the second-generation AirPods on Wednesday as soon as they appeared on Apple’s online store were quoted delivery dates between March 26-28.

Looking at the AirPods order status thread on the MacRumors forums, some customers in the US are saying they have subsequently been given March 27 as a confirmed ship date, but this seems to depend on which courier they’ve been assigned.

The article goes on to say that some customers in the UK have been notified that they would be receiving their order today, possibly ahead of the press event.

While certain couriers may deliver shipments ahead of time, customers won’t be able to immediately enjoy some of the AirPods features that require the iOS 12.2, watchOS 5.2 and macOS Mojave 10.14.4 updates until Apple has released them for public consumption.

The biggest feature of AirPods 2 is the new Apple H1 headphone chip that brings an additional hour of talk time and Hey Siri, allowing you to just say “Hey Siri” in order to invoke the smart assistant instead of having to double-tap an earbud to make a voice request.

AirPods with the standard charging case are $159 in the United States. AirPods with the wireless charging case are available for $199. The standalone wireless charging case is $79.

The earbuds some to be in high demand.

AirPods 2 sold out following the announcement and are currently listed with an estimated shipping time of 1-2 weeks in the US, with orders placed today delivered between April 5-10.
