Apple lowers prices on some RAM, SSD and other build-to-order Mac upgrades

As we told you this morning, refreshed iMacs offer not only faster CPUs but more affordable RAM and GPU upgrade options, too. As it turns out, Apple’s now lowered prices on flash storage upgrades for the new MacBook Air, Mac mini and MacBook Pro models, as well as tweaked some other build-to-order options for iMac Pro and Mac Pro.

2018 Mac mini

Maxing out the SSD in your Mac mini is now $200 cheaper.

$799 Mac mini (baseline)

  • 256GB SSD [+$200] — no change
  • 512GB SSD [+$400] — no change
  • 1TB SSD [+$800] — no change
  • 2TB SSD [+$1,400] — $200 off

$1,099 Mac mini (flagship)

  • 512GB SSD [+$200] — no change

2018 MacBook Air

Apple has also tweaked SSD upgrades for the redesigned MacBook Air notebook that was released in 2018, making jumping to a 1.5TB SSD on either base model $100 cheaper.

2018 MacBook Pro

According to MacRumors, Apple has quietly lowered prices of the 2TB and 4TB SSD flash storage upgrades for 13 and 15-inch machines MacBook Pro models by as much as $400.

2017 iMac Pro

For the iMac Pro all-in-one, which launched in December 2017, Apple has tweaked the prices of some configure-to-order options.

$4,999 iMac Pro (the only model):

  • 64GB RAM [+$400] — $400 off
  • 128GB RAM [+$2,000] — $400 off
  • 256GB RAM [+$5,200] — new offering
  • 4TB SSD [$2,400] — $400 off
  • Radeon Pro Vega 64 GPU with 16GB HBM2 VRAM [+$550] — $50 off
  • Radeon Pro Vega 64X GPU with 16GB HBM2 VRAM [+$700] — new offering

The machine has also gained a powerful Radeon Pro Vega 64X graphics upgrade option as well as a brand new 256-gigabyte RAM upgrade.

2013 Mac Pro

The current Mac Pro, last refreshed in 2013, will be replaced later this year with a highly modular Mac Pro system. In the meantime, the company has lowered the price of the 64GB RAM upgrade on both baseline and higher-end Mac Pro configurations, as follows:

Mac Pro (all models):

  • 32GB RAM [+$400] — no change
  • 64GB RAM [+$800] — $400 off

Apple doesn’t shy away from adjusting its built-to-order prices when prices of the components fluctuate, which has been happening with RAM and SSD prices.
