AirPower release appears imminent, a new iPod touch is expected tomorrow

Apple yesterday seeded a sixth beta of iOS 12.2 to its registered developers and one developer has managed to unearth additional evidence signaling AirPower’s imminent launch.

According to Brazilian developer and 9to5Mac author Guilherme Rambo, there are major changes in the code that identifies when two devices are charging on the same mat.

AirPower can charge up to three devices at once, using the device with the largest screen to display the charging status for all devices on the mat. It shows 3D animations of the devices on screen when they start charging, which is in part what this system component is for.

These changes strongly suggest Apple is getting ready to finally ship AirPower to consumers. We’ve seen rumors earlier this year about AirPower going into production in January 21, if that’s true, it means Apple’s new wireless charging mat will be available for purchase soon.

In other words, Apple could release AirPower soon, either later this week or, more probably, when the iOS 12.2 releases officially.

The company kicked off the week by launching a third-generation iPad Air and a fifth-generation iPad mini with the A12 Bionic chip and support for the first-generation Apple Pencil.

An iPod touch refresh is apparently expected tomorrow

The barrage of hardware launches continued today with the refreshed iMac all-in-ones and some adjustments to the RAM, SSD and other build-to-order upgrades for Mac computers.

Meanwhile, MacRumors has heard we’ll be seeing a new iPod touch tomorrow.

Apple may have plans to announce a new seventh-generation iPod touch in a press release as early as tomorrow. MacRumors received a tip earlier this month claiming that Apple would announce new iPads, iMacs and iPods on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, and so far this information has proved to be accurate with the arrival of new iPad Air and iPad mini models on Monday and an iMac refresh today. Naturally, we now expect Apple to introduce a new iPod touch tomorrow.

Should Apple continue unloading its hardware updates ahead of the services-focused March 25 press event, we might just as well see the company quietly debut not only AirPower but the next AirPods or at least a Qi-enabled version of the AirPods charging case.
