Apple seeds beta 4 of iOS 12.2, macOS Mojave 10.14.4, watchOS 5.2 & tvOS 12.2

Apple today released fourth developer betas for the upcoming iOS 12.2, watchOS 5.2, macOS Mojave 10.14.4 and tvOS 12.2 updates (public betas should be arriving shortly).

To install the betas, use the Software Update mechanism in the Settings app on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV. The watchOS 5.2 beta can be found in the Watch app on your paired iPhone. The new Mojave beta is in System Preferences → Software Update on your Mac.

Here’s what’s available today:

  • iOS 12.2 beta 4
  • macOS Mojave 10.14.4 beta 4
  • watchOS 5.2 beta 4
  • tvOS 12.2 beta 4

Inaugural betas for these OS updates released for developer testing on Thursday, January 24, followed by second betas on February 5 and beta 3 on February 19. Public betas of iOS 12.2, macOS Mojave 10.14.4 and tvOS 12.2 arrived on Monday, January 28.

Your device must have a special configuration profile, found on the Development Center portal, before it can use beta software from Apple.

Hands-on with the iOS 12.2 beta

iOS 12.2 brings several improvements, including four new Animoji for your Messages and FaceTime conversations, the addition of HomeKit TV support, availability of Apple News in Canada, Today at Apple recommendations on the Lock screen, air quality in Maps, a new Add Money button in the Wall app for Apple Pay Cash and more.

iOS 12.2 will also permit third-party apps with auto-renewing subscriptions to offer new discount options aimed at luring past subscribes back, as well as make it easier for customers to review and manage their subscriptions.

In Safari, a new indicator appears if the page you’re visiting is not using the secure HTTPS connection. When searching in Safari, you now get arrows next to search engine suggestions that take you to more targeted search results with a single tap.

In Screen Time, you can now choose a different schedule for the Downtime feature on a day-by-day basis. Lastly, iOS 12.2 packs in a fullscreen Apple TV remote widget in Control Center, redesigned AirPlay icons when casting to certain devices and a new Screen Mirroring icon in Control Center.
