Pwn20wnd revises unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release with partial support for 4K devices running iOS 12

Pwn20wnd began preparing 4K device support for the iOS 12-centric unc0ver jailbreak tool over the weekend, and while the bulk of that support seems to be complete, a few quirks stil remain.

With that in mind, Pwn20wnd has revised the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release Wednesday afternoon to beta version 37 with at least “partial” support for 4K devices:

As it would seem, 4K devices are only partially supported as of beta 37 because Cydia Substrate is exhibiting minor issues on certain 4K devices running iOS 12. Fortunately, Pwn20wnd says it can be fixed, and full-fledged 4K support is expected to arrive after Cydia Substrate is confirmed working on all 4K devices.

Citing the changelog on Pwn20wnd’s GitHub page, the unc0ver v3.0.0 beta 37 revision also encompasses the following changes:

02/27/2019 – v3.0.0~b37 was released for public testing with the following changes:

– Enable partial 4K (A7/A8) support on iOS 12 to allow setting a nonce and disabling auto updates

– Update the APT lists cache file for repositories

Pwn20wnd also mentions the following important notes, which should be carefully considered by anyone who might be thinking about using the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release:

Important Notes:

– The incompatible versions of the “Apple File Conduit “2” (arm64/KPPLess)” package have been found to cause the jailbreak to fail to load tweaks. – If you are having this issue, please jailbreak without enabling tweaks, update or uninstall this package and re-jailbreak

– Many extensions are known to cause issues with the iOS 12 due to the lack of proper iOS 12 compatibility. – Please be careful with what you install

– It is highly recommended to turn on the Airplane Mode before attempting the jailbreak

It should be noted that the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release is still a beta, and while it might be tempting to hop onboard right now, we’d strongly advise waiting for the official public release to prevent any possible bugs from manifesting. At the time of this writing, A12 aren’t yet supported, but that’s expected to change after full 4K support is completed.

Those already jailbroken on iOS 12 with the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release are being advised to download and run this update as soon as possible to take full advantage of the new features and improvements.

The latest public release of the unc0ver jailbreak tool is v2.2.6 with support for iOS 11.0-11.4 beta 4 – the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release is the only iteration that supports iOS 11.4-11.4.1. Both versions of the unc0ver jailbreak tool can be had from Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub repository.

If you’re not already on a jailbreakable version of iOS 12, then be advised that iOS 12.1.1 beta 3 is still being signed, which means you can still downgrade to it via iTunes. You can use IPSW.me to check the signing status of any firmware version before attempting a downgrade via iTunes.
