BelleVolume: a beautiful volume HUD replacement for jailbroken iOS 11 & 12 devices

iOS is a well-polished mobile operating system, but one thing Apple continues to ignore time and time again is that atrocious native volume HUD. There’s no shortage of jailbreak tweaks that aim to improve this experience on the iPhone and iPad, but perhaps one of our favorites to date is a new release called BelleVolume by Luke Muris and Geometric Software.

BelleVolume relocates the volume indicator to the middle of the Status Bar, which prevents it from obstructing your view in various everyday scenarios. On notched devices such as the iPhone X, XR, XS, and XS Max, the volume indicator materializes just below the notch; other devices display the volume indicator where the time would normally appear.

Right out of the box, BelleVolume includes six different volume indicator themes that you can pick from. Examples of each of those are depicted in the screenshots below:

Among the options you can pick from are:

  • Vertical bars in the Status Bar
  • Squares in the Status Bar
  • Dots in the Status Bar
  • A pulse in the middle of your display
  • A slider in the Status Bar
  • Alternating triangles in the Status Bar

You’ll also find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app after installation where you can customize the tweak’s aesthetic and behavior:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle BelleVolume on or off on demand
  • Only enable BelleVolume for the SpringBoard
  • Configure a custom animation speed via slider
  • Enable custom appearance settings
  • Configure background and foreground colors
  • Enable dynamic colors
  • Configure low, medium, and high volume colors
  • Blacklist specific apps
  • Toggle haptic feedback on or off

BelleVolume provides users with a template to make their volume HUD look and feel exactly how they want it to. If you’re ready to drop Apple’s painfully-ugly native volume HUD, then this tweak is a great place to start.

If you’re interested in trying BelleVolume, then you can download it for $2.00 from Cydia’s Packix repository. The tweak purportedly works with jailbroken iOS 11 and iOS 12 devices.
