Trackpad sketching now available in Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint for Mac

Microsoft today refreshed its Word, Excel and PowerPoint productivity apps in Mac App Store with support for trackpad-based sketching.

“Move your finger on the trackpad and watch the ink flow across the screen,” Microsoft wrote in release notes accompanying the updates. This is available in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Digital ink support is one of the key features of the Windows edition of Office. There are no Macs with a touchscreen, of course, but the latest version of Office for Mac now attempts to address that omission by adding the ability to ink with your trackpad, which is nice.

In related office productivity news, the Windows giant is currently testing @ mentions in Office apps with the Office Insider beta testers.

Office recently became available on Mac App Store for the first time. Thanks to Apple’s relaxed sandboxing rules, a number of other major software suites are or will be available on the store.
