AirWave brings more media control gestures to your iPhone when AirPods are connected

Just a few days ago, we showed you a new jailbreak tweak called Siliqua 2 that empowered users to customize the stock gesture system on any pair of AirPods, but why stop there? A new free release called AirWave by iOS developer Michael Lema can provide you with at least two more customizable gestures whenever a pair of AirPods are actively paired with your handset.

While Siliqua 2 focused primarily on changing the outcome of your AirPods’ native tap gestures, AirWave brings two previously non-existent gestures to your device: 1) double-pressing your iPhone or iPad’s power button when AirPods are connected; and 2) triple-pressing your iPhone or iPad’s power button when AirPods are connected.

Once installed, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can set AirWave up however you want:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle AirWave on or off on demand
  • Choose what happens when you double-press the handset’s power button
    • Play or pause music
    • Skip to the next music track
    • Rewind to the last music track
  • Choose what happens when you triple-press the handset’s power button
    • Launch Siri
    • Play or pause music
    • Skip to the next music track
    • Rewind to the last music track

The developer includes a blue respring button at the bottom of the preference pane. You should respring any time you change the settings here to ensure that they take effect.

The list of actions provided by AirWave isn’t as extensive as Siliqua 2, but that’s not really a problem since both tweaks can be used on the same device without conflict. If you wanted, you could install both tweaks and have up to four AirPods-centric gestures to maximize control over your handset.

If you’re interested in trying AirWave for yourself, then you can download it for free from Cydia’s BigBoss repository. The tweak works on all jailbroken iOS 11 devices and is open source via the developer’s GitHub repository.
