Nintendo announces ‘Dr. Mario World’ coming to iOS and Android this summer

Nintendo on Thursday announced that its next game for iOS and Android will be Dr. Mario World. They are calling it an ‘action puzzler’ and as you’d expect it will be free to play with optional in-app purchases.

The company offers few details about the game itself, but if it’s anything like the original Mario, it should look a lot like Tetris. Nintendo says it is developing the game in partnership with the messaging app LINE.

“LINE”, under its corporate mission “Closing the Distance,” LINE is dedicated to creating a world that seamlessly connects people, information, content, and services anywhere, anytime, and at the most comfortable distance. In its endeavor to realize a self-contained Smart Portal strategy, LINE offers services in a variety of fields to its 165 million monthly active users in four key markets (Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia), where the userbase continues to expand.
Utilizing both companies’ strengths, Nintendo and LINE will co-develop and jointly operate a new action puzzle game featuring Dr. Mario titled Dr. Mario World to be released by Nintendo.

The game is expected to land in early summer of this year, in 60 regions including the US and Japan. Today’s news comes shortly after Nintendo announced it would be pushing back the launch of Mario Kart Tour.
