The Facebook app gains native display support on iPhone XR, iPhone XS Max & iPad Pro

Facebook today released a compatibility update to its mainland mobile app on App Store, adding native display support for the 6.1-inch iPhone XR, the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max and the new iPad Pros.

While the iPad Pro refresh leaves a lot to be desired—there’s still too much unused white space—the app now looks crisp and fully optimized on the new iPhone XR and iPhone XS Max.

These devices have introduced new form factors and resolutions and while Apple’s tools enable developers to easily construct user interfaces that automatically adapt to any given resolution or form factor, the end results aren’t always perfect as you could imagine.

In Facebook’s case, the app looked a tad enlarged on my iPhone XS Max as if I enabled a zoomed view in my iOS Settings. With this update, things now look just right and the fonts are properly sized. The optimization gives you some extra vertical space for content.

Speaking of updates, Facebook recently refreshed Instagram for the new iPhone XR and iPhone XS Max form factors after an update in December 2018 broke the optimized resolutions.

Last but not least, the company’s Messenger app was refreshed earlier this week with native display support for the latest iPhones.
