How to open links in Chrome on iPhone and iPad

If you prefer Chrome over all other iPhone and iPad browsers, then you have three easy ways to open links inside it. This tutorial will show you how.

Chrome on iPhone

1. Set Chrome as your default browser

You can easily set the Google Chrome app as your default web browser on your iPhone or iPad. After that, all web links you tap in other apps will open directly inside Chrome.

2. Set Chrome as the preferred browser for specific apps

Some apps like Gmail, Drive, Telegram, and more allow you to choose your default browser from in-app settings. The steps differ as per the app. But in general, you will see this option by opening that app and going into its settings. Once you do this, the links you tap inside that app will open in Chrome as opposed to Safari or any other default iOS browser.

Here’s how to do that on Telegram and Gmail:

Telegram:

  1. Open Telegram and tap Settings.
  2. Go to Data and Storage > Open Links in and choose Chrome.

  3. Scroll down and tap Default app.
  4. Select Chrome as your default browser.

3. Use an iOS shortcut to open links in Chrome

You can use a free Siri Shortcut, which will open copied links inside Chrome. You can also access this shortcut from the iOS Share Sheet to open links in Chrome. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Shortcuts app and tap Gallery.
  2. Search for Chrome, tap the Open in Chrome shortcut, and tap Add Shortcut.
  3. Next, add this shortcut to your iPhone Home Screen for quick access.
  4. After this, copy any link in any other app and tap the Open in Chrome icon from your iPhone Home Screen, which will open that link inside Chrome.
  5. You can also tap the share icon in other apps and choose the Open in Chrome action to have that link load inside the Chrome browser on your iPhone and iPad.
