The latest Instagram update has removed support for iPhone XR & XS Max resolutions

Instagram 75.0 that got pushed to App Store Wednesday has removed native display support for the new resolution modes on the iPhone XR and iPhone XS Max smartphones.

According to reports on Reddit that were highlighted yesterday by MacRumors, some of the affected users reported seeing an enlarged user interface and fuzzy images when using Instagram on their iPhone XR or iPhone XS Max.

iPhone X owners are not affected. Naturally, those who have not yet updated their copy of Instagram for iOS have confirmed not being plagued with any of the issues such as a zoomed-in interface, blown out images or fuzzy text on their Apple smartphone.

Such interface hiccups are typically expected when using unoptimized apps on large-screen devices such as the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max and the 6.1-inch iPhone XR. To avoid this, Apple advises that developers take advantage of Auto Layout, its declarative layout engine which allows for user interfaces that are fine-tuned for every specific device form factors.

I’m guessing this is just a bug that will be fixed in a future update because it would not make sense for Instagram to purposefully degrade user experience whatsoever.

Instagram for iOS is available free on App Store.
