Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang are headed to Apple

Apple has reportedly cut a deal with DHX Media to produce new animated Peanuts content, Deadline reported Friday. That’s right, Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang are coming to the iPhone maker!

Deadline has the story:

Working closely with its subsidiary Peanuts Worldwide, DHX Media will develop and produce original programs, including new series, specials and shorts based on the beloved characters created by Charles M. Schultz.

One of the projects under the deal is original short-form STEM content that will be exclusive to Apple, featuring astronaut Snoopy. Peanuts Worldwide and NASA recently signed a Space Act Agreement, designed to inspire a passion for space exploration and STEM among the next generation of students.

These iconic characters should definitely boost the appeal of Apple’s upcoming video streaming service, which the company is understood to unveil at some point in the second half of 2019. Apple is understood to have been interested in not only family-friendly content but TV-MA shows as well.

ROUNDUP: Apple’s upcoming original TV series

The Peanuts characters and IP are 41% owned by DHX Media, 39% owned by Sony Music Entertainment Japan (which acquired a stake in DHX earlier this year) and 20% owned by the Schultz family.

This major agreement is in addition to Apple’s existing animation deals that we reported on previously which will see it working with Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon on future animated movies and TV content.

Moreover, Apple has ordered 26 episodes over two years for an animated musical comedy, titled “Central Park”, that is being created by Loren Bouchard (“Bob’s Burgers”).
