Apple revealed today via the App Store dashboard for developers that iOS 12, its latest and greatest mobile operating system, is now powering 72 percent of devices sold in the last four years. Just a month ago, the company reported that iOS 12 powered 63 percent of iPhones, iPads and iPod touches unveiled since September 2014.
Its predecessor iOS 11 is on 21 percent of devices sold in the last four years and older iOS versions still power about seven percent of iOS devices unveiled since September 2014.
The Cupertino technology giant also revealed today that the iOS 12 software is currently powering 70 percent of all devices in the wild, while iOS 11 remains on 21 percent of all devices and older iOS editions continue to run on nine percent of all devices.
By comparison, App Store logs captured a little more than a month ago on October 29 showed 63 percent, 30 percent and seven percent of devices introduced in the last four years were using iOS 12, iOS 11 and older editions, respectively. In terms of all active iOS things in the wild, Apple said a month ago that iOS 12, iOS 11 and older editions was powering 60 precent, 29 percent and eleven percent of all devices.

Both data points illustrating iOS 12’s adoption which were released today-the 72 percent of devices sold in the last four years and the 70 percent of all devices in the wild—were derived from access logs captured by App Store on December 3, 2018.
iOS 12 has been publicly available for more than two and a half months, since September 17.
A few days ago analytics firm Mixpanel pegged iOS 12 adoption at 75 percent, outpacing iOS 11, which only serves to illustrate how inaccurate these third-party stats can be.
