Windowed lets you upload and view Instagram posts on your Mac

The free, open sourced Windowed app is a handy browser that lets you upload content to Instagram, view posts and manage your accounts, all from your Mac or Windows PC desktop.

The app was created by a frustrated photographer and computer engineering student who noticed there was no easy way to upload photos to Instagram directly from his computer.

I created this initially to improve my workflow but I realized that many others had the same problem as me. I’m releasing Windowed as a free application to help other photographers like myself. Happy Shooting folks!

But wait, doesn’t Instagram already provide upload functionality through a web browser?

Yes, but this functionality is currently limited to mobile browsers—you cannot upload anything to Instagram from your desktop. Windowed cheats the system by pretending to be a mobile browser. To upload photos, simply click the camera button in the navigation bar.

According to the developer:

All of your interactions including login are done directly with Instagram. We don’t have access to your account so you don’t have to worry about giving a third-party your account information.

With multi-account support, you can switch seamlessly between five separate Instagram accounts with a click of the Profile icon at the top of the navigation bar.

The app is open sourced, with the source code available on GitHub.

If your Mac throws a message saying the app cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer, right-click its icon, then choose Open from the contextual menu.

Windowed is available free as a direct download.
